The Epe Local Government in Lagos State has commenced the distribution of 200 first aid boxes to public primary schools, an initiative aimed at improving students’ access to immediate medical care during school hours.
Chairman of the local government, Ms Surah Animashahun, launched the distribution on Thursday in Epe, noting that the effort is intended to support schoolchildren, who are often vulnerable to minor injuries during physical activities.
She stressed that having basic first aid supplies readily available is crucial for managing small incidents before proper medical treatment is sought. The chairman reaffirmed the council’s commitment to promoting health and safety in schools, stating that early intervention can help prevent complications from seemingly minor injuries.
The first aid boxes are stocked with essential supplies including antiseptics, bandages, spirit, gloves, and cotton wool. In addition, local government health officials were deployed to train school staff on the correct use of the kits.
According to Animashahun, the initiative is part of a wider health and safety campaign in partnership with the local education authority. She urged school administrators to maintain the supplies and ensure they are restocked when needed.
Mr Ayomide Ayeola, Head Teacher of RCM Primary School, praised the move as a timely and thoughtful gesture, especially as schools return to full academic sessions.
