Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio has reportedly been indicted alongside three former youth players at the club in connection with the alleged recording and distribution of a sexual video involving a minor, according to Spanish media reports on Wednesday.
A judge in Gran Canaria is pursuing legal action against “four footballers” for their alleged involvement in “the recording or non-consensual dissemination of videos of a sexual nature involving a minor and another young girl,” who were 16 and 18 years old respectively at the time of the incident, according to court documents seen by AFP.
Although the court document did not explicitly name Asencio or attribute specific charges to individual players, the 22-year-old defender is widely reported to be among those facing prosecution. The charges include disclosure of secrets without consent, violation of privacy, distribution of explicit material involving minors, and possession of child pornography.
The case stems from a complaint made in September 2023 by the mother of the younger girl, who is said to have appeared in the video. Spanish media at the time reported that a consensual sexual encounter between the girl and one of the players was filmed without her knowledge, and the footage was then shared among others without her consent.
Three players were arrested at Real Madrid’s training centre following the initial complaint, though their identities were not made public. Asencio, now a regular starter in Madrid’s first team, has faced public backlash in recent months, with rival fans chanting slogans against him.
During the recent Clasico match, Barcelona fans were heard shouting “Asencio, to jail,” while Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey semi-final clash with Real Sociedad in February was briefly halted after home supporters chanted “Asencio die.”
The legal proceedings remain ongoing as the Spanish judiciary continues its investigation.
