NOH Jos Opens Its Doors, Targets End to Medical Tourism in Plateau

The National Orthopaedic Hospital (NOH) Jos is set to officially commence operations on Tuesday, 13 May, offering specialised orthopaedic services to the public. This was announced by the hospital’s Medical Director, Professor Iche Onche, during a media briefing in Jos on Monday.

Prof. Onche explained that the hospital, which was established in 2023, would soon begin admitting in-patients as part of its phased operational rollout. He emphasised that the facility’s services would focus exclusively on orthopaedic care, in line with its designated mandate.

The range of treatments to be offered includes adult reconstructive surgery, hip and knee arthroplasty, limb lengthening and reconstruction, fracture management, bone gap treatment, and spine surgeries. Additional services will cover paediatric orthopaedics, physiotherapy, sports medicine, arthroscopy, as well as the provision of prosthetics and orthotics.

According to Prof. Onche, the hospital is fully equipped to handle complex surgical procedures such as hip replacements and shoulder and knee reconstructions. He expressed optimism that the availability of these advanced medical services would help reduce the trend of medical tourism, allowing residents of Plateau State and surrounding areas to access world-class orthopaedic care locally.

Established in 2023, the National Orthopaedic Hospital Jos was conceived to transform lives through expert musculoskeletal healthcare and to serve as a hub for specialised treatment in Northern Nigeria.
