The Adamawa State Government has received a substantial donation of 1,433,300 doses of polio vaccines from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), aimed at immunising children between the ages of 0 and 59 months during an upcoming statewide campaign.
Dr Suleiman Bashir, Executive Secretary of the Adamawa Primary Healthcare Development Agency (PHCDA), made the announcement during a media round-table held on Thursday in Yola.
Dr Bashir revealed that 2,778 healthcare personnel have been mobilised across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas to support the effective rollout of the immunisation exercise.
The vaccination campaign is scheduled to run from 26 to 29 April. Dr Bashir encouraged parents and guardians to ensure that their children receive the polio vaccine during the period. He also called on traditional and religious leaders to lend their support in sensitising their communities and promoting participation.
Mr Oluseyi Olosunde, a Health Officer at the UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, praised the Adamawa Government for its ongoing efforts in improving healthcare services.
Olosunde noted that mobile immunisation teams would be sent to key locations such as markets, playgrounds, schools, and places of worship to ensure that every eligible child is reached.
