Super Rugby Is Thriving, Declares Reds Coach Kiss
The coach of the Queensland Reds, Les Kiss, said Super Rugby was “alive, healthy, and kicking” following their thrilling victory over Western Force.
This season, the Pacific tournament is much more aggressive.
Wallabies won 28-24 in Perth on Saturday night thanks to a covert try from winger Filipo Daugunu in the 80th minute. This was the most recent in a string of exciting matches during the first three rounds.
Kiss, who may be Australia’s replacement when coach Joe Schmidt leaves later this year, acknowledged that his team “won ugly” after rallying from a 14-0 deficit.
“But it was a beautiful win too,” he added. Is that possible in the same area? Not sure.
“But that’s what this comp is offering, we’ve already seen it, there is jeopardy… teams can come back from nowhere, there is no given at the moment, and that’s in every game so far.

“Super Rugby has once again demonstrated that it is still very much alive and well (in Perth). Nothing less was what we anticipated.”
The four Australian teams that remained strong after the debt-ridden Melbourne Rebels’ demise last season were able to sign players who had no other club.
As of right now, the evidence suggests that games are closer than ever before, making for a more alluring spectacle.
For the first time in Force’s 20-year existence, a loss prevented them from winning three straight games to begin a season, and coach Simon Cron found that difficult to accept.
“This one hurts, and you can see it in the faces of the players,” he stated.
“It hurts them that we’ve let that one go.
“That it pains them, so they can get back up and learn from it, and we can improve as a team, is what I’m happy about.”
The Canterbury Crusaders, who had a bye this week following a victory and a defeat to start the season, will be the next opponent the Reds face when they go to New Zealand.
The undefeated NSW Waratahs await in Sydney, where the force takes a plane across Australia.
