Mr Saviour Enyiekere has officially taken office as the sixth Executive Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), following his swearing-in by President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja. Alongside him, eleven commissioners also assumed their roles, marking a significant development in the leadership of the commission.
The Deputy Director of Information at the NASC, Mr Emmanuel Anyigor, announced the development in a statement issued in Abuja. He highlighted that Enyiekere is the first southerner to lead the commission since its establishment on 19 June 2001, a milestone in the institution’s history.
According to Anyigor, the newly inducted commissioners include Mr Hanmation Tersoo and Mr Salisu Agboola-Balogun representing the North-Central region; Alhaji Lawan Mahmud and Aminu Malle from the North-East; Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi and Yusuf Tabuka representing the North-West; Festus Ifesinachi Odii for the South-East; Mary Ekpenyong and Mr Patrick Giwa from the South-South; and Mrs Taiwo Oluga and Afeez Ipesa-Balogun from the South-West.
During the handover ceremony, the Secretary to the Commission, Mr Lucky Ikharo, presented official documents to the new chairman and expressed full support for the incoming leadership. He affirmed the management’s commitment to ensuring the commission performs its duties effectively.
In his remarks, Enyiekere pledged to prioritise the welfare of staff under his leadership.
“I thank President Tinubu, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and the leadership of the National Assembly for giving us the opportunity to serve. I pledge that we will lead the Service towards achieving the legislative mandate of government,” Enyiekere said.
