Ododo Seeks Assembly Backing for ₦22.1bn Addition to 2025 Budget

Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has presented a supplementary budget worth ₦22.1 billion to the State House of Assembly for consideration. This proposal adds to the previously approved ₦582.4 billion for 2025, pushing the total budget for the year to ₦604.5 billion.

The governor, in a letter read before the Assembly on Tuesday by Speaker Rt Hon. Aliyu Umar, explained that the additional allocation is intended to address the economic challenges arising from the removal of fuel subsidies, ongoing inflation, and to advance key infrastructural projects across the state. He also stressed the need to bolster safety and security for both current and future residents.

“I wish to inform this honourable House that this supplementary budget is predicated to the effect of the fuel subsidy removal, ongoing infrastructural development activities, nationwide inflation and the imperative need to ensure the security of lives and properties of our citizens.

…The supplementary budget has become necessary.

This will add to the existing data and further enhance the safety and security of our State for both residents and prospective residents.”

Following the submission, the budget was forwarded to the House Committee on Appropriation for a detailed review and is expected to be reported on within a fortnight.
