Mr Smart Nwobi, the newly inaugurated President of the Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA), has reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to representing the interests of Nigerians living in South Africa.
Speaking in Sandton, Johannesburg, during the inauguration of NUSA’s new national executive team, Nwobi underscored the Union’s role as a unifying platform for the Nigerian community. The event also marked the official launch of The Migrant Magazine, with the theme: “Uniting Nigerians in South Africa.”
In his inaugural address, Nwobi pledged to promote unity and collaboration within the Nigerian diaspora.
“This administration is dedicated to promoting unity among our diverse Nigerian community in South Africa,” he said.
“We will focus on supporting growth in trade and commerce while fostering stronger relationships between Nigerians and South Africans.”
Akindele Olunloyo, NUSA’s National Publicity Secretary and Editor-in-Chief of The Migrant Magazine, shared the vision behind the new publication.
“The magazine was launched to bridge Nigerian migrants’ heritage with their South African presence, thereby creating space for dialogue and community building,” he stated.
“It documents our migrant experiences with dignity and authenticity.”
Dr Sule Bassi, Secretary of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), represented the Commission’s Chairperson, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, at the event. In his goodwill message, Bassi highlighted numerous ways in which Nigerians abroad can contribute to national development.
The event was well-attended by dignitaries and community leaders across South Africa, highlighting NUSA’s growing prominence and its evolving role in shaping diaspora relations.
