President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to eradicating insurgency across Nigeria, declaring that no acts of evil against citizens will be tolerated under his leadership.
Speaking in Abuja on Friday, the President made this known during a meeting with a delegation from the Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, led by its General Secretary, Archbishop Chivir Chianson, at the State House. Represented at the engagement by his Special Adviser on Policy Communications, Daniel Bwala, President Tinubu assured that security agencies have renewed directives and determination to restore peace and stability nationwide. He emphasised that the government is adopting a comprehensive approach to tackling insecurity.
According to him, “This administration is committed to addressing insecurity and will not tolerate any form of evil. Crime is crime and has no religious or tribal colouration. The security forces have fresh marching orders to deal decisively with all criminal activities.
“We are engaging with state governors to address the root causes of insecurity. It may exist to a certain degree, but rest assured that we are committed to ensuring citizens can pursue their dreams in a secure environment.”
The President also called for a broad-based national consensus to effectively combat insecurity, underscoring the importance of all Nigerians acknowledging wrongdoing without bias or political manipulation.
In a statement released by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House, President Tinubu noted that his administration’s economic reforms are already yielding encouraging results, as shown by several positive economic indicators. He appealed to the delegation to maintain their support for the government’s reform agenda to help sustain the current momentum, including improved state revenues and fewer industrial disputes.
Responding on behalf of the delegation, Archbishop Chianson said their visit was to express concern over the challenges facing citizens, especially in rural communities. He applauded the President’s sweeping reforms, recognising their potential to improve the standard of living for many Nigerians.
He highlighted the recent approval for the recruitment of forest guards to protect Nigeria’s forest reserves, describing it as a much-needed measure to curb criminal activity in remote areas.
Archbishop Chianson further praised the President’s inclusive approach to appointments, noting that they were free of religious bias.
“The Church in Nigeria is impressed with his appointments so far. The choice of Senator George Akume as Secretary to the Government of the Federation, a Christian, was particularly appreciated as a sign of positive change.
“We will continue to support President Tinubu’s administration, as we believe in the Renewed Hope agenda,” Chianson affirmed.
He also shared details about the group’s upcoming 2025 Synod, which will focus on praying for national peace and good governance, alongside offering training and empowerment opportunities for members. The Charismatic Bishops Conference, he noted, has 906 members across Nigeria.
The meeting was also attended by key figures from the conference, including Archbishop James Maljit, Deputy National President North; Archbishop Joseph Jatau Yari, National Vice-President North West; Archbishop Alexander Nyoonkyeh, Overseer of Benue Province; and Bishop David Gyang, Overseer of Plateau Province.
