The Nasarawa State Government has called on its athletes to maintain focus and discipline as preparations commence for the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Ogun State. The official opening of the training camp took place at the Special School in Lafia, where the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Yakubu Kwanta, outlined the objectives of the early start to training.
Mr Kwanta stated that the training is designed to ensure athletes perform at their best during the competition. He highlighted the importance of early preparation as a foundation for success, adding that the state government has made sufficient logistical and financial provisions to encourage the athletes and strengthen team spirit.
He went on to urge the participants to honour the state’s investment by excelling not only in performance but also in conduct. This, he said, is especially important as they gear up for both the National Sports Festival and the National Youth Festival.
Delegation leaders Miss Beauty Timothy and Coach Bashir Bassey praised the early commencement of training, noting it as a historic first for Nasarawa State. They voiced confidence in the team’s capabilities and expressed optimism about securing gold medals in several categories.
Athletes from Nasarawa will compete in a wide range of events, including Karate, Athletics, Kung Fu, Volleyball, Judo, and more.
