The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed claims that it is favouring Nasarawa United FC in response to a protest lodged by Bayelsa United FC over their Round of 16 clash in the 2025 President Federation Cup. The match, held in Anyigba, Kogi State on Wednesday, ended in a 1-1 draw before Nasarawa United secured a 5-4 victory on penalties.

Following the match, Bayelsa United submitted a formal protest to the NFF on the same day, challenging the eligibility of five Nasarawa United players: Detan Ogundare, Emeka Onyema, Ogochukwu Leonard, Solomon Chigozie, and Benjamin Jack.

In its official response, the NFF firmly rejected the claims, stating that the five players in question were properly registered by Nasarawa United for the 2025 President Federation Cup.

“After thorough examination of your claims, it is our findings that the listed five (5) players above are in the submitted list of Nasarawa United Football Club for registration for the 2025 President Federation Cup,” the NFF stated.

“The said five (5) players were duly registered and issued players licences by the Nigeria Football Federation to participate in the 2025 President Federation Cup for Nasarawa United Football Club. Thus, your protest lacks substance and merit and therefore did not succeed.”

The NFF’s handling of the protest reflects its commitment to transparency, fair play, and upholding the integrity of the tournament. The decision reinforces the governing body’s dedication to following due process in resolving disputes within Nigerian football.
