Kenya asserted its dominance at the 2025 Enugu City International Marathon as Koros Ken claimed victory in the men’s category, securing the top prize of $15,000. The East African nation’s strong showing continued with Steve Rasway finishing second and earning $10,000, while Bernard Sang placed third and took home $5,000.
The women’s race followed a similar pattern, with Shauline Chepkiru Koech of Kenya clinching first place, reinforcing the country’s supremacy in long-distance running. Among the Nigerian competitors, Davou Ezekiel from Jos emerged as the top local finisher. He received the ₦3 million prize set aside for the best-performing indigenous athlete.
The marathon lived up to expectations with an impressive turnout of athletes and spectators, as well as commendable organisation that gave the event a world-class feel.
Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah added a personal touch by taking part in the 10km race. Reflecting on the success of the event, the Governor expressed pride in its execution and the enthusiastic participation it attracted.
“This race has shown us the power of Sports and what sports can do in galvanising our youth,” the Governor said. “I am really impressed with what I have seen.”
“And it has only motivated us as a state to put more efforts to make the race better and bigger next year.”
More than one hundred elite international athletes joined thousands of Nigerian runners in what turned out to be a landmark edition of the marathon, bringing the 2025 Enugu City International Marathon to a thrilling and celebratory close.
