Speaking at the event, Senator Akume stressed the importance of repositioning Galaxy Backbone into a more “agile, responsive, and impactful” institution. He highlighted its strategic role in supporting Nigeria’s public digital infrastructure and e-Government initiatives.
“Our collective objective is to transform Galaxy Backbone into a more agile, responsive, and impactful institution—one that serves as a driving force behind Nigeria’s digital public infrastructure and service delivery,” he said.
He further underscored the need for collaboration, transparency, and accountability between the Board and the Executive Management, emphasising strategic alignment as key to the agency’s long-term relevance and performance.
GBB’s Strategic Roadmap: IDTS 2025–2028
Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, who was appointed Managing Director/CEO in February 2024 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, welcomed the new Board and shared a strategic overview of the agency’s current trajectory.
Despite operating without a Board for over a year, Galaxy Backbone successfully developed and launched the Integrated Digital Transformation Strategy (IDTS) 2025–2028, which outlines a clear roadmap for upgrading national digital infrastructure and enhancing public service delivery.
Key Pillars of the IDTS 2025–2028 Include:
-
Modernisation of the National ICT Backbone Infrastructure
-
Creation of inclusive digital ecosystems connecting government, businesses, and citizens
-
Adoption of emerging technologies such as AI and Blockchain for smarter service delivery
-
Strengthening of cybersecurity and data governance frameworks to foster digital trust
-
Diversification of revenue streams to ensure operational sustainability
This strategic plan aligns closely with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, and supports President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We are excited to work with a Board whose insight and guidance will be critical to our continued growth and national impact,” Professor Adeyanju remarked.
Galaxy Backbone Limited remains Nigeria’s leading provider of digital infrastructure and ICT services. It was established by the Federal Government to advance e-Government, foster digital inclusion, and drive national development through secure, scalable, and sustainable digital public infrastructure.
