Xbox president Sarah Bond confirmed on Tuesday that Microsoft is actively developing a new generation of Xbox video game consoles.
“We are investing in the next generation of our hardware range, which includes consoles, handheld devices, PCs, cloud gaming, and accessories,” Bond said in a video shared on X.
The semiconductors for the upcoming hardware will be created in collaboration with Silicon Valley’s Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).
“We have formed a strategic, multi-year partnership with AMD to jointly engineer silicon chips for a variety of devices, including the next generation of Xbox consoles,” Bond added.
Earlier this month, Microsoft unveiled its first Xbox-branded handheld gaming devices, presenting them as a means to enjoy its extensive game library on the move.
Two models, called the “ROG Xbox Ally,” made in partnership with Taiwan-based ASUS, are expected to launch by the holiday season at the end of the year. Bond shared these details during an online event showcasing upcoming games for the platform.
Microsoft plans to reveal pricing and release dates for the Xbox Ally devices in the coming months.
The handhelds resemble Microsoft’s console controllers in their button layout, toggles, and grips, but have been extended in length to accommodate a central screen.
“Our vision at Xbox is to enable you to play the games you want, with the people you want, anywhere you want,” Bond said in the video.
