Tunisia has called for an urgent end to the escalating tensions in Libya, warning that the worsening security situation poses serious risks to the country’s future and the safety of its population. In a statement released on Friday, Tunisia’s Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern over the deteriorating conditions, particularly in Tripoli, and offered to host a UN-facilitated, Libyan-led dialogue aimed at reaching a peaceful solution.
The statement, reported by Tunisia’s TAP News Agency, reaffirmed the country’s commitment to supporting a political resolution free from foreign interference, underscoring its neutrality and long-standing ties with Libya.
“Tunisia stands prepared to serve as neutral ground for Libyan brothers to pursue a political settlement that preserves Libya’s unity and meets its people’s aspirations for security and stability,” the ministry said.
The statement emphasised the need to prioritise the national interest and promote consensus among Libya’s rival factions. It highlighted the importance of launching a comprehensive peace process under the supervision of the United Nations, with the goal of ending violence, organising democratic elections, and establishing unified and lasting state institutions.
“These institutions must reflect the interests of all Libyan citizens, regardless of background, and ensure the sovereignty, unity and stability of the Libyan state,” the ministry added.
Calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities, the ministry urged all parties in Libya to resolve their differences through dialogue rather than conflict. Tunisia also reiterated its commitment to helping facilitate discussions that could restore calm and move the country closer to long-term peace and democratic governance.
