The Nasarawa State government has stepped up security surveillance in communities bordering Benue State in response to growing concerns over violent attacks in parts of Benue. This move, aimed at maintaining peace and supporting national development, was announced by Honourable Peter Ahemba, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Affairs, during a press briefing in Lafia.
Ahemba explained that the heightened security presence is necessary due to the rising tension and fear among residents in the affected areas. He assured the public that security agencies are in full control of the situation and are working diligently to prevent any spillover of the violence into Nasarawa. He also urged locals to remain calm and vigilant, encouraging them to promptly report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities to ensure swift protection of lives and property.
Meanwhile, Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Shettima Jauro-Mohammad, confirmed that personnel have been deployed to strategic points along the southern zone of the state, which are considered vulnerable to attacks. “We have mount surveillance, for any quick information, we have fortified full patrol team in the area and all the black spots that were aired mark have full team stationed there,” he said.
The Commissioner also commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for his unwavering support of security agencies, noting that this cooperation has allowed them to operate efficiently and maintain order across the state.
